Check they're ADI qualified

Look for a green ADI badge on the windscreen. Pink badge = trainee (cheaper but less experienced). Avoid anyone without a badge.

Read Google/Facebook reviews

Check their pass rate. Good instructors have 70%+ first-time pass rate. The national average is 49%.

Try before you commit

Book 1-2 lessons before buying a block of 10. If the teaching style doesn't suit you, switch. Many learners waste money on the wrong instructor.
